The Teachings of Jesus are not just Fundamental.
I fear that we are in a point in history where we are forgetting the fundamental teachings of Jesus. If we are not careful we can forget the essential practice of our faith. Christianity teaches that Jesus is Lord, and while we live by faith, we shouldn't forget that there is a fundamental application to living by faith. We are not saved by good works, but living out the practical aspects of things like love and compassion and forgiveness is essential in letting the world know there is a good God, who loves His creation. Creation was designed to glorify the Creator, but when we fail to see this, we sin against God's design for humanity. When we try to live our faith apart from actually living it, we lose perspective as to why Jesus died for our sins.
Yes it is true, Jesus died for our sins but when we feel that we can be perfect people apart from the gospel, we take on a burden that will not lead us to Heaven when we die. Being good without a Judeo-Christian worldview leads us to think in a secular way, that denies the gospel and the purpose of human redemption. To think that we must reshape history in order to bring peace to this world, is against our own human nature. Human nature must be redeemed in order to see God on earth, and in Heaven. We are created in God's image, we do not need to become gods, but we mustn't forget that our essential human nature is flawed, which is the doctrine of Original Sin.
When we think that our human nature is essentially good, we need to repent because we all inherited original sin. To deny our need to be right with God rejects the sacrifice of the Messiah and leaves no further chance to be forgiven. God created mankind not to live in a state of perpetual sin, on the contrary Heaven will be a place of eternal forgiveness. We don't need to confuse the fact that we can't be perfect in this life, but if you deny Jesus, he will deny you! You really don't want to feel that you are self sufficient in yourself, because all humanity is subjected to death eventually.
The reason why we need to accept the gospel is because reality won't make sense to you until you do. We all have questions about the meaning of life, but how can we truly know the answers until we call upon, and trust in the Only One who can give us meaning, healing, happiness and purpose to our lives. This is Mike.
