Notice that I'm not talking about freedoms but freedom. And I hope I'm not preaching to the choir, but I believe that Canada if we are not careful could be heading down the same path the many countries have gone down, and that is the path of the loss of freedom. How does it happen? It happens individually then through the family, then corporately, and the cause of it is sin. Not your sin, but he sin of others. I think you would have a hard time disagreeing that Canada is the Lord's country. In fact the whole world belongs to God, even anti-christian pagan nations...they are the Lord's country. And when God allows a country to go through the process of a free nation to an enslaved nation, he does it to teach his people a lesson, and I don't mean specifically the church (although I do in a sense). Let me explain.
When Christ was on earth, the Jews were under Roman oppression. Many of the people who flocked to Jesus did so because they believed the Messiah was going to free his people from Roman oppression. When Jesus was killed, many stopped believing that he was the Messiah or were confused about it. About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.” (Luke 24 NIV)
The Jews wanted freedom just like some of us wanted freedom today, but Jesus didn't promise his followers an earthly kingdom, he told us through Paul to pray for our nation. Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. (Romans and 1 Timothy 2 NIV) I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. 7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.
I wanted to show you that even if we loose our freedoms we will never be enslaved if you are a christian. How can a country loose it's freedom? By the majority choosing to give it up, by forgetting the past and suppressing the truth. (among other things.)
