Read these passages from the book of Romans, “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.” (Romans 1:18-23.)
The bible teaches us that there is a God, but by our own sin or wickedness we suppress this very fact. While it is true that Jesus is a Saviour from sin, we have to be willing to come out from our sins in order to be saved! Part of salvation is admitting that we are sinners, and until we get to Heaven, we travel this earth as saved sinners. To deny that God exists is essentially saying that we prefer our sins more than we prefer God, which is disobeying the first of the Ten Commandments.
Why would God provide a provision for our sins, if He wanted us to die as sinners? God desires that we repent, and choose Him over our sin. Sin blinds us so we are no longer capable of deciding what is right, and what is wrong! Read these verses from Ephesians 4:17-19 “So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.”
Sin actually debilitates us and puts us in the dark! Our thinking becomes futile and our hearts become hardened. This is a choice we make by not believing the bible or by not believing in God. Our lives become meaningless and when faced with difficulty we have no answers, consequently allowing the evil to continue in our own lives, the lives of others, and through out the world.
