Are Christians Weak?
I have to admit within the culture we live in these days, character strength is glorified and those who are seen as vulnerable are considered weak. It has been a slow decline for many years, that those who call themselves Christians are getting a really bad wrap because Christians are seen as passive people who let others take advantage of them. This is the lie that the unbelieving world believes about people who worship a crucified Saviour, and this is part of the reason why our society is trying to push out the mercy and the teachings of Jesus Christ. The reason might be too obvious for some, and the truth that anyone can have their sins forgiven forever, has become unpalatable to the masses because people like sin.
The reason why people like being in bondage is sadistic. If you ask any sane person if they like to feel pain, their answer will be no. But living in the digital age we can cyber bully anyone without seeing them suffer, face to face. Hyper connectivity has removed the real face of the suffering, and has made the vulnerable more of a target to dangerous people in real life. Anyone who sees it as their right to inflict pain on an other human being in person or online, immediately comes into conflict with the world's largest religion Christianity. Christianity teaches tolerance, and the world knows this, so in my opinion right now in our days the world is taking advantage of good hearted people.
There is no accountability when you are walking down the street, or at a bus stop and start intimidating someone. There may be other people watching you, but they might be just as scared about how you are holding yourself and your wish to cause someone else pain. Sometimes I think we are living in a barbarian culture. Nothing in particular has set me off in a rant, I just think we Christians are getting a bad wrap.
We are all called as Christians to evangelize our society, and because the western world is too familiar with the gospel, unbelievers take the bible for granted. Granted, no one will admit that, in fact you might get into trouble saying that the world has become intolerant of it, but the truth remains that some people would just like to live in their bubble and scare innocent people into thinking their feelings don't matter.
I was reminded of a bible verse that says the apostle Paul became like the people he was trying to win to Christ, I'll quote it here; 1 Corinthians 9:22 ESV "To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some." Although the bible doesn't specifically say Paul became strong to win the strong, it does say that he became "all things to all men" within reason of course. Paul would accommodate his weaknesses in order to show God's strength and the power of the Holy Spirit to win the strong. It wasn't Paul's natural strength or ability that was on display, but the power and grace of God, that made him strong to the strong. Everyone needs Christ, and the apostle is demonstrating God's desired to have everyone saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3-4).
So, the question still lingers. Are Christians weak? I don't think so. I have met many Christians in my lifetime, and it is my personal opinion that true Christians are anything but weak. It takes a strong faith, a clear conscience and a backbone to stand up for what you believe in, especially in the 21st Century. This is Mike.
