Salvation is Free.

Salvation is Free. Not many things are free in our world, so when you think of Heaven, there must be something we can do to earn our way there. Led Zeppelin has a song "Stairway to Heaven " one of the verses is "and she is buying a stairway to Heaven." Unfortunately no one can buy their way to Heaven, if this were true then God would be a partial God and the bible teaches that there is no partiality with him, (Romans 2:11). So what does God require of humans? He requires us to have faith and to believe. The gospel is simple, Jesus died in our place, so we wouldn't have to suffer for eternity in hell. When we believe the Gospel, that Jesus died and was buried and on the third day rose from the dead, we can trust him as our Lord and Saviour. Salvation is a free gift, but God requires us to repent. Repentance means turning from our sin and agreeing with God about our true condition. The bible says that we are sinners, (Romans 3:23) repentance means agreeing wit...

When Love Vanished from the Culture.

When Love Vanished from the Culture. I would like to paint a fictional bleak picture of the 21st Century from the eyes of someone still alive (figuratively speaking) in the late 20th Century. Here goes, "Hi, my name is Joe and the year is 1996. Some of you reading this might not have been born in the year I am writing this, but if you were alive in 1996 you might remember what it was like. I come from a good family, I'm 21 years old and I have a good job. If you remember 1996 the way people work here is very different from the way you work in the 21st Century. Now people see the family as a burden and as a business, where profit is the most important thing. They have forgotten that love is the most important thing in life. If I fail to love you, and you get injured, now I am no longer responsible (you say) for your hurt feelings! In fact, in the 21st Century you only care about profit and we Canadians have become a country without values. In 1996 we still live our values...

The Value of Life.

The Value of Living Your Life. These days a lot of people have questions about eternity and what happens next. In my 20's in fact all throughout my life, I always had an awareness of death and dying and I always had faith that there is a Heaven. I went to Catholic high school and grade school, but wasn't too formally trained, most of what I learned or experienced in school was internally believed upon. When I was 21, I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour, however I remained Catholic despite my recent conversion. What I would like to share with you, is my journey of faith. Faith for me gives me hope. I have faced hardships in my life and became someone with a unseen disability in 1999. It wasn't a time of sadness, even though the nature of my disability causes sadness. I have been journeying with God my whole life, and the rain, symbolic for pain and suffering, falls on the just and the unjust, as the bible teaches. The root cause I have found is an unwillingn...

Ontarian's to possibly extend Daylight Savings time till next Spring.

Ontarian's to possibly extend Daylight Savings time till next Spring. Regardless as to why we started this time change, it has been in effect many years before I was born, or my Parents were born. I understand that some people can benefit with the extra sunlight in the winter time, but I want to give you a definition of our circadian rhythm as humans. circadian rhythm (/sɜːrˈkeɪdiən/) is any biological process that displays an endogenous, entrainable oscillation of about 24 hours. These 24-hour rhythms are driven by a circadian clock, and they have been widely observed in plants, animals, fungi, and cyanobacteria. In other words, our bodies are biological clocks that operate within the realm of time, and time is measured by how much daylight is in a day. Our bodies adjust to time, but it takes time and a steady exposure to sunlight during the day to set our internal clocks. When we experience time changes, our bodies change along with the 24 hour day cycle. When we over-extend ...

The Positive Qualities of Millennials and Post Millennials.

The Positive Qualities of Millennials and Post Millennials. This is a very interesting generation and I have thought up a list that in my mind that defines these generations of people. I personally come from Generation X, and believe me there are huge problems in my mind with my generation, but each generation has positive and negative qualities and I want to encourage my younger generations. This list isn't exhaustive but it highlights some of the positive qualities in character that I have come to see in the Millennials that I have met as well as the Post Millennials. First, I have noticed that they are funny or that they like to have fun. Some can be very forgiving and without generalizing I think this applies to a lot of them. I will list the qualities that I feel stand out the most, and then I will comment on what I think this list means. 1. Caring 2. Trusting 3. Creative 4. Wondering 5. Talented 6. Confident 7. Intelligent 8. Mindful 9. Intuitive 10. Faithful 11. Loving...

Being Roman Catholic.

Being Catholic. The bible gives clear warnings against sin and sinful behaviour. There are some religious denominations that put more stress on holiness than others, but what is holiness anyway. It was clear to me growing up what a saint was. I grew up Catholic and from a very young age was taught to respect things in my religion that were holy. As a child I always felt God's presence and holiness throughout the mass, and I was taught right from wrong in a traditional family. When I was 21, I had a deeper conversion into Christianity and understood the gospel as a personal relationship or friendship with Jesus. What didn't change was my understanding of holiness. Even though I had a conversion or born again experience, I remained in the Catholic Church for a long time, and I didn't see any conflict with who I was and my Catholic identity. My relationship with God had changed, and I experienced a new joy in the mass and praying the rosary. I knew that I had faith, and th...

Are Christians Weak?

Are Christians Weak? I have to admit within the culture we live in these days, character strength is glorified and those who are seen as vulnerable are considered weak. It has been a slow decline for many years, that those who call themselves Christians are getting a really bad wrap because Christians are seen as passive people who let others take advantage of them. This is the lie that the unbelieving world believes about people who worship a crucified Saviour, and this is part of the reason why our society is trying to push out the mercy and the teachings of Jesus Christ. The reason might be too obvious for some, and the truth that anyone can have their sins forgiven forever, has become unpalatable to the masses because people like sin. The reason why people like being in bondage is sadistic. If you ask any sane person if they like to feel pain, their answer will be no. But living in the digital age we can cyber bully anyone without seeing them suffer, face to face. Hyper connect...

The Unhappy Nation. A Story. By Mike Finnerty.

Luke 18:8 NIV  I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" The Unhappy Nation. It was their desire to be perfect, but we all know that this is impossible in this life. So the next question on the agenda was "What makes you happy?" Just then a grumpy old man appeared and said "I don't believe that happiness exists!" This was the lie that the nation bought into, that happiness didn't exist anymore. They tried to build a society where everything was accepted, their reasoning was if the majority was happy then there would be a minority that would be unhappy, and to the majority that was acceptable, and that is how they all would be happy. What no one could ever foresee was that the unhappiness of even one person in their utopian society would affect the happiness of the majority. So they were at a loss as to what to do. If one person was causing the unhappiness of the...

A True Christian's Forgiveness.

A True Christian's Forgiveness. One of the lessons found in the bible is mankind forgiving mankind. Not only does the bible teach that anybody can have their sins forgiven, but Jesus taught this forgiveness as in the story of the woman caught in adultery. A group of people gathered around Jesus and brought to him a woman caught in adultery (John 7:53-8:11). They knew the Law said that such women should be stoned, so they asked Jesus to test him in the Law. When Jesus saw the woman, he bent down and wrote something on the ground and then said "He who is without sin be the first to stone her." When the crowd heard this, they all walked away. Jesus wasn't saying that the Law was imperfect, he was demonstrating that he was there to fulfill the Law. Jesus taught something called the New Covenant and through his death and resurrection, gave mankind a new way to live. Jesus was saying that in order for mankind to be forgiven, they have now new standards to work out while...
