We Are Called to be Good Stewards of the Earth.
Times have really changed and along with the changes in our world there has been changes in our environment. I worked for Greenpeace one summer in my 20's and had first hand experience in the environmental movement. Back in the 1990's there was basically the same concerns for the environment that we have now, but there were less people on board or talking about it. I felt like I was part of something that not many people were a part of, and over the years I have seen the climate get warmer and cooler. The world was not so strongly opposed to making changes in our society, and environmental law was politely considered, not brutally demanded.
We felt like there was still the possibility to make lasting changes for future generations, generations that are now living. I really tried hard to change things and even took action to get an education in Environmental Science, which didn't work out for me because I didn't know how to write an essay. But the concerns and awareness still are with me, and now more than ever I can see where we have succeed and where we have failed. The climate still is a major concern for some people, but I think we lack the communal and political will to actually make the nessesary changes.
Yes, we are trying to clean up our world, but there are societies and communities all over the world that need environmental rejuvenation. Not only is there more pollution in our cities and towns, but there are entire communities that are depressed, that were once full of life. I do think we need to reconsider how we spend our money, and taxing the people for carbon is a mistake. People need to feel empowered by their own free choice to make changes that are lasting, and we have already lost so much.
We will be accountable for our stewardship of our earth, and it isn't just up to the government to change things for us. We have to step out in good faith, not just to change laws, but it is our job to convince people that preserving what is left of our environment is still a good thing. This is Mike.
