To die in God’s mercy we must live in it. We experience God’s mercy when we trust in Jesus and what he did for us. Salvation begins when we see Jesus as our Saviour and Lord and begin to have faith in him. Confessing him as Lord, and believing that he was raised from the dead in our hearts. Through conversion we are given grace, which enables us to live in a way that is pleasing to God. The bible tells us to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, (Philippians 2:12). If we have no desire to do this, we are probably without the grace of God in our lives right now. Which is a dangerous thing because if you die in that state you will die in your sins, unforgiven.
God doesn’t demand much of us, but to believe. Having a knowledge about God doesn’t mean that you are saved. You must have a living faith that demonstrates the reality of God in your life. This is why there are people who profess to know God, but if you were to know the actuality it would probably scare you. How do you know you are living in the grace of God? For one thing, your faith will be real. It’s not that you have perfect faith, but your faith will be leading you somewhere. You will be living your life with an awareness that you can’t get away with sin, that Heaven and Hell are realities and you will experience the fellowship of the Holy Spirit sanctifying you.
Because we have the bible, God’s love isn’t purely subjective. We have the word of God as a light and as a source of strength, so that when you doubt, God’s words can comfort you! You can know you are walking with God because you will have an assurance that you are forgiven, not just something you did in the past. Living faith involves trust. Sometimes people struggle with trusting God, but we must overcome this if we are really going to live by faith. God is not like us, God is perfect, so he can be trusted! It’s not his fault if we claim we can’t know him! The bible, and the church reveals to us the nature of God, and the plan of God for humanity. In the book of Romans in the bible it says we are without excuse if we claim we can’t know God, “For from the creation of the world the invisible things of Him are clearly seen, being understood through the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)
On judgment day, you will have to give an account of your life, unfortunately at that time you will not be given a second chance to live by faith, that must be done now, (Hebrews 9:27). This is Mike.
