On the New Evangelization and Charismatic Renewal.

I have been a Catholic since birth, and the word evangelization never had a significant meaning as a kid growing up in the church. In my understanding, to evangelise was something that the priest did on Sundays and something my religion teacher did in religion class. I don't have a great aversion to the word evangelisation, and I didn't have a bad feeling about the term evangelization throughout my life as a Catholic. We have all heard the term "saving a soul" but what some of us disagree on is how God saves us or judges us. I want to talk about the Charismatic Renewal in my church, and how this is impacting my relationship with God, but first more about the new evangelization. The reason why evangelization is needed in the Catholic church now is because there is strong opposition from a large unbelieving world, and there is a lot of anti-Catholic sentiment within the Protestant Church. Some people think that Catholicism is a cult-like branch of Christianity and hen...

When Life gives you Rotten Eggs.

Rotten eggs can make you sick, obviously, so I am using this as a metaphor for reasons why people check out on their hopes and dreams. As we all get older, some of us live with regrets, seeing the inevitability of our mortality we wonder if their is anything really worth living for? Obviously we all have reason to live our lives, but some of us have been through some really hard times and are now feeling the outcome emotionally. I have never separated the thought that my faith or my religion is connected to my relationships, but trying to build relationships for me now is very hard. I am not saying that it i...

What does it mean to die in God's Mercy?

In the book of Hebrews in the bible we read, " Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses." (Hebrews 10:28 NIV) To understand this passage correctly, we need an understanding of the Old and New Testaments'. The Old Testament was a covenant that God made with His people Israel, and there were promises and blessings for those who kept it, and curses for those who rejected it through disobedience. The Law was given to Moses and the prophets, and it was these holy people who enforced the Law among God's people. There were strict punishments for people if they sinned, or rejected the Law, and one of those punishments was death without mercy. People these days confuse the Old Covenant, with the New, in the sense that they believe that God still acts without mercy in the lives of His people. To understand the New Testament (or Covenant) we all need a proper understanding of sin. Before Christ came to this earth to p...
