Codependency and Why it Hurts.

We are an interdependent people, and part of human flourishing is learning to make decisions for ourselves. But unfortunately some of us have grown to adulthood, and because of difficult life situations have developed an unhealthy dependence on others. I have been teaching myself through Christian material, just what codependency is. I have learned that the term came from the 70's and referred to someone living with someone else who had an alcohol addiction. I am not sure when this term came to be used with relationships, but this is the codependency that I want to talk about in this blog entry. Relationships can be thrilling for those of us in life who are desperately trying to meet new people. The saying that old friends are the best friends, still holds true, because when we meet someone new we really don't know anything about their past. There are a lot of unanswered questions that we dwell upon and even stress out over, when we meet someone new. This is part of the thril

God's Mercy in light of Sinful Humanity.

Pride is considered in the bible as the sin that caused a third of the angels to fall along with their defector Lucifer, or the devil himself. Isaiah 14:12-17 NKJV How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, [ a ] son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13  For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ 15  Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. 16  “Those who see you will gaze at you, And consider you, saying: ‘ Is this the man who made the earth tremble, Who shook kingdoms, 17  Who made the world as a wilderness And destroyed its cities, Who did not open the house of his prisoners? The bible teaches that there is no redemption for fallen angels or the

In The face of Temptation.

As human beings we face many things every day in our lives. Many choices that will either turn out to be good choices, and then there are those choices we face that seem confusing and need some kind of direction. The question to ask when facing difficult choices in our lives can be different for most of us so it is during these times we need to really know what we believe. As a Christian I have drawn strength in the past from the wisdom of the elders, and bible teachers and my own study of the word of God and the work of Jesus. Despite my limited knowledge of the bible, I have always rested in a friend or some outside help to bring me back to a point of stability in my personal walk with God. There have been secular issues or problems that needed to be addressed by professionals who knew where to lead me to find my mental health, but when it came to religious issues I had a group of Christians who would pray and support me in a trying situation. I know that my involvement with an evang

What is Easter and why do Christians Celebrate it?

Holy week is this week coming up ending with the culmination of Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The reason why this holiday is so important to Christians is because the Christian doctrine of the resurrection of their Saviour is the hinge point of the Christian faith. Christians believe that if Jesus Christ was not raised from the dead, then Christianity could not exist. 1 Corinthians 15:17 KJV And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. The Christian doctrine of forgiveness of sins is what makes it possible for anyone to go to Heaven when they die, and Christians believe that if Christ was not raised from the dead they are still in their sins, or in other words they will perish after death. Jesus' resurrection guarantees the Christians resurrection at the end of time when we believe that Jesus will return to this earth to bring final salvation for those that await him here. We also believe, that our Christian dead will ri

Community Care can be Complicated.

With some tragic events happening in the lives of people I love and know, I feel it is time to talk about community care and what that looks like in my life right now. I have promised myself to keep as little personal information out of this blog, but at the same time bringing awareness to the many who are suffering in our society, literally with little help from friends or family. In the 21st Century the family has been looked at with heightened interest, because there are a lot of conservative people and liberals as well who feel that the family is under attack and has been for quite some time. Now, we have the amalgamation of all sorts of families, as our society and our communities have to draw specific lines and boundaries, that none of us are to cross. Freedom of expression still plays a very important role in our culture, because without it everything falls apart. We are emotional beings, and we need to express and connect with other emotional beings every day just to process th
