Is there Hope when Life seems to be Crumbling?

We have all heard the story of Job in the Bible, where Satan asks God if he can test Job and God's answer was "Do your worst, but don't take his life" because Job's life belonged to God. There will be times in our lives where we literally feel that everything is crumbling around us. We will feel if it weren't for this crazy world we live in, we would be doing just fine. We all have had times in our lives where we have felt lost, like we needed direction. For me it happened in my 20's, I was heading in the wrong direction and reformed my way of living through a mixture of eastern religion and Christianity. But I was yet to have my Job moment in 1999 when I ended up hospitalized, with a lived experience. Yet despite almost dying, I reformed yet again and dropped the eastern religion and returned fully to Christianity. Even though remnants still remain. Something that transformed my life, was having my story told in a book that is out now through IC Publish

Drop by Drop. A Quest for Hope.

Tragedy comes in unexpected to us, leaving us feeling helpless and hopeless which can lead to despair. The trick is not to get to the point where you start to despair, it is not really a trick but a very serious coping mechanism that our minds and souls tap into, because despair is really hard to get out from. What I want to do is quote the bible, I am a Christian and I feel the bible helps me get out from under that rock of hopelessness. Psalm 43:5 WEB  "Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him: my Savior, my helper, and my God."  There are many verses in the bible about being in despair. I'll list a few below for future reference: 1. Psalm 34:17-20 ESV When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. H

Mindful of What?

There seems to be a lot of talk about being mindful these days, but what are we supposed to be mindful about, you may ask? From the start it is good to admit that mindfulness comes from the Buddhist religion, and is a way of being "heartful or compassionate." There is a lot more to mindfulness in the Buddhist tradition, and my guess is that it has to do with perceiving reality into a Buddhist mindset. However mindfulness has become secularised or made comprehensible to those who might not be Buddhist. I had a conversation with someone today, and as I reflect on my own ideas of mindfulness, I caught myself saying that many religions have of form of awareness similar to mindfulness, but their practitioners might just nor be aware of it. I don't want to steal an idea from someone else, so I will leave that thought to ruminate. What I will talk about is what it is that we are supposed to be mindful of. My answer is our lives, basically our existence. Sometimes we forget tha

A Theology of Salvation.

As I search the internet these days, I am finding it harder and harder to find accurate information about the gospel. It has been the exception not the norm, to tune into Christian television or radio and feel at ease at what the preacher is saying. I don't know why this is the case, for the purpose of evangelisation is to spread the good news of the gospel to all people. Each morning I tune into some kind of Christian programing, to be taught the word of God, only to prematurely abort the program out of frustration for the lack of bible teaching. Even shows that are supposed to be bible teaching shows, are not teaching their bibles in a way that communicates the gospel effectively. What is the Gospel? The gospel is so easy to understand, but our churches for some reason have complicated it. The political correctness in our churches has lead people to feel that if they share or teach the gospel they will somehow be persecuted for it. I believe the gospel is purposefully being h

What to do in a Time of Crisis.

The very first thing to do in a time of crisis is to try to keep a clear head. In what ever part of the world where you live there are community crisis teams that are available to assist you in your time of need. Where I live, I am well aware of my regions telephone crisis line and when connected to them, there is a host of information that they can give you so you can seek out further help. In Canada organisations like the Canadian Mental Health Association are there for those of you who feel you might be going through emotional distress, you can call your local branch and ask for intake. It might seem like there is a lot of red tape you have to cross, but I can assure you it is worth it. The moment you sit down with a psychiatrist, or a social worker is the moment you will begin to gain some clarity over the situation you are going through. But for immediate relief if you are in distress, crisis phone lines are available in your community, if in doubt contact you doctor or 411, or th

The Mind that Can't Stop Thinking. Is this you?

I can't say we have all had this experience, but for some of us dealing with issues like this can be deeply frustrating or anxiety producing. The mind that can't turn itself off is usually a mind that needs to seek out professional help because in most cases, in healthy minds the mind can shut off the thinking process very easily. In a mind that is pliable, that has never experienced anxiety there is a natural clam, which deals with life in a natural way. This kind of mind doesn't feel forced to make decisions that are against it's own will or against it's own nature. When we experience trauma of any kind it can throw the mind off balance in some people who have a mental disposition towards this. It is also a natural thing for someone to go through the same trauma, and not have any negative mental disposition at all. The question isn't who is affected but what to do when you feel you are being affected in a way that is affecting your mental health. Triggers ar

The Power of the Tonge and Mind.

What we think about and what we say to ourselves, and others really matters. Our mood is dependant on what lies we are telling to ourselves or what lies other people are telling us about our selves. The mind has the power to transform our lives, just simply by believing different things about strongholds in our minds. We all have an inner dialogue going on in our minds all the time, it's just not that we are aware of it all the time. You might have had a moment where you catch yourself thinking a thought that is out of character and you might of thought to yourself, "Where did that thought come from?" You were probably thinking that thought all along, you just were not aware of it. When we live our lives, like what we think about ourselves doesn't matter we are in fact judging ourselves in a negative way. We are failing to affirm and recognize that what we think about life, about God, about our partner, doesn't really matter. It is a form of self hatred to not aff
