What is sanctification?

Romans 6:1-23   ESV / 36 helpful votes What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.  Definition:  Sanctification  is a state of separation unto God; all believers enter into this state when they are born of God: “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and  sanctification  and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30). This is a once-for-ever separation, eternally unto God. Sanctification is intimately linked with redemption. Y...

The doctrine of salvation.

Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God on behalf of my fellow Israelites is for their salvation. For I can testify that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not in line with the truth. For ignoring the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking instead to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law, with the result that there is righteousness for everyone who believes.      For Moses writes about the righteousness that is by the law: “ The one who does these things will live by them .” * But the righteousness that is by faith says: “ Do not say in your heart , * ‘ Who will ascend into heaven? ’” * (that is, to bring Christ down) or “ Who will descend into the abyss? ” * (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “ The word is near you , in your mouth and in your heart ” * (that is, the word of faith that we preach), because ...

The postmodern church.

Living in an age of rapidfire communications and shameless self  promotion, The church stands at a crossroads in a place where it's never stood before. With all the hype in the media with self-promotion and self love will the church follow in the same steps that the world is following in right now? I could say she the church is sick but whom I to diagnose a problem, for which there seems no remedy? Has enlightenment taking the place of the cross, or has the world taken the place of the preaching of sin in our churches? To diagnose this problem I want to go on a quest first, to diagnose my own heart. But it's my own heart is sick with said what does the heart of the church look like? It's clear I am not the church but I am a part of the church or more theologically correct to say I'm a part of the body of Christ. In fact the Bible teaches that Christ is the head of the church and if anyone is in Christ the Holy Spirit resides in that person making them a part of the univ...

Cataclysmic times.

The question now rises will man ever find peace within himself and with his fellow human beings? As a born-again Christian we are taught that man is filled with sin and filled with trouble until the time when Christ comes to redeem the world. I had a conversation with a close friend of mine the other day and part of that conversation was due to the fact that man's restlessness in society has reached a point where it is almost impossible for them to find a sense of peace within themselves and with each other. The Church of Jesus Christ has often not been a hindrance to peace but the church in history has proven many times and time again that peace is possible within the human soul. There are many spiritual paths it doesn't take one to believe in God to understand that the remedy to the restlessness and our hearts is found only through a deep relationship with the God who created them. In the Old Testament Moses taught that the law says that when one is offended or when one is do...
